Approved by the People's Government of Guangdong Province, put on file in China's Educational Ministry and set up by the Yangjiang local government, Yangjiang Vocational and Technical College (YJVTC) is a comprehensive college under the direct administration of the local government, situated in the beautiful coastal city of Yangjiang in western Guangdong.
The school-running direction of YJVTC is that, based on Guangdong and opening up to the outside world, the college will make the best use of social resources, in cooperating with other enterprises, to train advanced vocational and technical talents much needed by modern manufacturing and service industry as well as to strive to integrate production, study and research into a whole. The development aim is, concerning the school scale, to keep some 6000 full-time students in the recent term; concerning the running condition, to strive to reach the level of excellent technical colleges; concerning the school quality, to strive to build itself into a famous technical college with its own remarkable teaching characteristics within Guangdong province.
The planning area of YJVTC reaches 540,000 square meters, 220,000 square meters of which have already been developed covering a construction area of 110,000 square meters. The eastern campus which is going to be constructed will cover the other 320,000 square meters with a construction area of 150,000 square meters. YJVTC possesses 16 multimedia classrooms, 6 computer laboratories with 540 computers for teaching purpose, more than 80 pianos and a book-collecting amount of 240,000 in the library. The total value of modern teaching facilities reaches some 16 million RMB and the college is planning to purchase from Spain some other advanced teaching equipments worth of 41 million EURO. There are 368 teaching and administrative staff members in the college, 273 of which are teachers. Among them 54 are with master degree, 2 professors, 53 associate professors and senior engineers, as well as 91 lecturers. YJVTC offers 24 specialties, having an overall enrollment of 6323, 6039 of which are full-time students.
YJVTC consists of CPC Affairs Organizations (Office of the CPC Committee, Disciplinary Supervision Division, College Trade Union, College Youth League Committee), Executive Affairs Organizations (Office of the College, Teaching Affairs Office, General Affairs Division, Student Affairs Office, Scientific Research Division, Adult Education Department) as well as 9 Teaching Departments:
Science and Engineering Department has 37 teachers and 879 students. It provides 5 specialties: Mold Design and Manufacture, Mathematics Education, Motorcar Test and Repair, Numerical Control Technology and Electrical Automation Technology.
Language and Literature Department has 39 teachers and 806 students. It provides 3 specialties: Chinese Education, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese and English Secretary.
Art and Management Department has 37 teachers and 798 students. It provides 9 specialties: Pre-school Education, Tourism Administration, Law, Housing-estate Administration, Accounting, Advertising, Music Education, Fine Arts Education and Physical Education.
Foreign Languages Department has 46 teachers and 2061 students. It provides 2 specialties: English Education and Business English.
Computer Science Department has 43 teachers and 1316 students. It provides 5 specialties: Technology for Computer Applications, Computer Network Technology, Electronic Commerce, Modern Educational Technology and Cartoon Design and Facture. Among them Technology for Computer Applications, Electronic Commerce as well as Cartoon Design and Facture are joint specialties cooperated with Chartered School of Technology (Singapore) Students of these specialties can receive Chinese-English bilingual education as well as both Chinese and Singaporean graduation certificates.
Life Science and Technology Department has 22 teachers and 179 students. It provides 4 specialties: Aquiculture, Gardening Technology, Food Biotechnology and Fine Chemicals Producing Technology.
Physical Education Department has 18 teachers.
Ideological and Political Theory Teaching Department has 23 teachers.
Technical Secondary Department has 18 teachers.
Besides making continuous effort to better such pedagogic specialties as Chinese, English, Mathematics, Music Education and Modern Educational Technology, YJVTC puts strong emphasis on promoting such specialties as Numerical Control Technology, Mold Design and Manufacture, Mechatronis, Electrical Automation Technology, Computer Applications and Maintenance, Information Technology, Electronic Commerce, Cartoon Design and Facture as well as Accounting.
Students who major in those specialties conducted together with Chartered School of Technology (Singapore) can choose voluntarily to have Chinese-English bilingual courses, according to one's own English competency as well as economic condition. These students will receive graduation diplomas both of YJVTC and of CITECH, and they can continue their undergraduate program in Singapore.
